Chess

Chess has rapidly become one of the most popular pastimes at our school in recent years. It all began with Declan, a passionate player who has been sharing his love for the game with students since 2022. He not only introduces chess in all his classes but also organises in-house tournaments, fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie. Recognising its growing appeal, the school invested in chess sets, and now, students can be found engrossed in matches both indoors and outdoors throughout the year. The highlight of the chess calendar is the annual Ficheall tournament, where pupils put their skills to the test against competitors from across Mayo. More than just a game, chess at our school emphasises fair play, fun, and the joy of connecting with opponents through friendly conversation.
